In the heart of Bolzano, Italy, the Bogen Restaurant emerges as a harmonious blend of historical legacy and contemporary elegance. Crafted by noa* network of architecture, this culinary haven breathes new life into an ancient barrel-vaulted workshop, seamlessly intertwining its storied past with modern sophistication.

A Journey Through History

Situated along the venerable Via Dr. Streiter, Bogen Restaurant occupies a space steeped in Bolzano’s rich mercantile history. This historic thoroughfare, dating back to the 13th century, served as a vital artery for Italian- and German-speaking traders, bearing witness to centuries of commerce and cultural exchange. At the heart of this storied street lies a humble two-story abode, its weathered facade bearing the scars of time. It is within this venerable edifice that noa* embarked on their transformative design journey.

Restoring Tradition, Embracing Innovation

The restoration of Bogen Restaurant presented a unique opportunity to honor the building’s architectural heritage while infusing it with contemporary flair. Guided by a deep reverence for history, noa* meticulously preserved the original features of the space, paying homage to its iconic barrel-vaulted arches. The exterior facade, adorned in a smoky white hue, received a subtle facelift, with a new tripartite black metal window enhancing both aesthetics and functionality.

Celebrating Architectural Harmony

Within the restaurant’s interior, noa* sought to accentuate the architectural splendor of the four majestic arches that define the space. A seamless blend of horizontal and vertical design elements was employed to create a sense of spatial harmony. An oak platform at the entrance and a polished grey-beige screed floor serve as understated backdrops, allowing the arches to take center stage. Thoughtfully curated lighting gently traces the curves of the arches, casting a warm glow upon the space.

Crafting Bohemian Ambiance

Drawing inspiration from the client’s vision of a romantic, bohemian-style atmosphere, noa* curated a design narrative that exudes charm and intimacy. A sprawling 7-meter counter, adorned with intricate floral arrangements, serves as the focal point of the restaurant. Crafted from Nacarado stone and adorned with eclectic rattan lamps, this centerpiece embodies both functionality and artistry. Intimate seating nooks nestled within the arches offer secluded retreats for diners, while vintage chairs and bespoke furnishings evoke a sense of nostalgia.

Fusion of Form and Function

In a testament to their commitment to both aesthetics and practicality, noa* seamlessly integrated service areas into the restaurant’s layout. A renovated kitchen and discreet restroom facilities blend seamlessly with the overall design aesthetic, ensuring a harmonious dining experience for patrons. Perforated metal panels, adorned with floral motifs, serve as both acoustic insulation and visual embellishment, exemplifying the marriage of form and function.
