Crafting an Experience: Donut & Coffee Shop in Daejeon by KKOL Studio

Crafting an Experience: Donut & Coffee Shop in Daejeon by KKOL Studio

Expressing Brand Characteristics

KKOL Studio embarked on a mission to encapsulate the essence of the brand, focusing on the iconic shape of a Boston doughnut and its sumptuous fillings. The design concept was to immerse customers in a journey divided into five distinct spatial sequences, each reflecting a unique aspect of the brand’s identity.

Filling Volume Facade

Drawing inspiration from the overflowing fillings of a doughnut, the facade was conceived to emulate the visual form of this delectable treat. Utilizing 3D modeling and FRP casting, an irregular and streamlined form was crafted to metaphorically represent the brand’s essence. Placing refined line furniture adjacent to the facade allowed passersby to catch a glimpse of customers enjoying their treats, reinforcing the brand’s image without revealing the actual products.

Spatial Sequence Integration

The interior layout was meticulously designed to guide customers seamlessly from the main entrance to the terrace. Modular furniture, resembling a continuous line, served as a visual cue connecting the indoor and outdoor spaces. Bold colors, particularly vivid orange, were strategically employed to accentuate the brand’s identity, complemented by lighting installations that added an extra layer of ambiance reminiscent of the doughnut’s filling volume.

Multi-functional Counter Solution

Addressing the challenge of limited space, the counter was ingeniously integrated with baking and service functions. Embedding the baking rack into the counter optimized workflow efficiency, allowing customers to focus on the doughnuts as showcased objects without visual obstructions.

Theatrical Baking Experience

A central glass-block element was strategically positioned within the furniture layout, offering customers a glimpse into the baking process. This theatrical addition transformed the baking activity into a captivating performance, enhancing the overall dining experience for patrons seated in the hall.

Adaptable Furniture Composition

Recognizing the evolving needs of customers, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the modular furniture was designed to accommodate various spatial layouts. From customer preferences to social distancing requirements, the flexible design ensures seamless adaptability to different scenarios, catering to changing demands and ensuring a comfortable environment for all.
